<p>Can you automate your blog ?</p>
<p>It is not something I ever gave much thought to. For me it was a question of who was the most dedicated or geeky when creating a blog. I did not know about plugins and which ones could be of value until I headed over to <a href="http://www.blogsuccessmachine.com">blogsuccessmachine</a></p>
<p>There I learned that the basic set up of the wordpress blog platform is not enough on its own to get your presence on the internet in the most efficient way.</p>
<p>It can be improved in a few different ways to make it more search engine friendly. When you make posts, they are not very SEO structured but this can be changed so that each post almost displays like a page.</p>
<p>In this way relevant keywords show up rather than some poor link with characters.If you modify the wordpress format with a few well chosen plugins, it willvmake for better results in the months to come from regular posts.</p>
<p>Of course if you could store posts for future publishing on an automated procedure you could take a weekand break or holiday and have your content go live in your absence. No need to worry about having an internet connection if you are out of town. Or , if you have syndication feeds, if added to your blog they help you with content building as they are updated by someone else.</p>

<p>However, just a word of caution when using these types of tactics with the elements of copywriting:  It is important that you are both credible and honest with the visitors to your site. Just imagine how bad it would look if someone came back to your site the day after, only to find the offer still in place.</p>
<p>But there are other ways in which you can imply urgency on your site.  You could show a page with the prices, and that they are the best prices to be found on the web as at that time.  With this method you are not providing a time limit or a limit on how much of the product is available. But by using a time stamp, you are also implying that the prices on these products could increase at any time.</p>
<p>The whole idea of this method is so that you get people moving.  So those who would normally be sitting on the fence will actually make that all important purchase.</p>
<p>But above all, you can sell with urgency as long as you do it with integrity, or you may do more damage than good.</p>
<p><b>Headlines: How To Write Them</b></p>
<p>So just how you go about writing a great headline? It’s quite simple really.  What you need to do is spend less time stressing about how to write your headline, and more time on figuring out what it should say.</p>
<p>Even if you say the wrong thing beautifully, it is not going to do you any good, but if you happen to say the right thing with poor wording, then this will help you much better in the long run.  </p>
<p>So, it is important that you put your ego aside and spend time deciding what your headline is going to say.  </p>
<p>So just how do you know what to say?</p>
<p>It is more important that you focus your mind on the desires and wants of your target audience, rather than on either the product or service that you are trying to sell.</p>

<p>If you have only just started out online or looking because of the downturn, then I welcome you here to this blog today in my first (but short ) post for 2009.  </p>
<p>What does 2009 hold for the world of social media and all forms of marketing? It is possible to build a business online but there is a wealth of contradictory information out there too.</p>
<p>The days of throwing up a site with fixed content that never changes&#8230;.are over unless you are out there building links back to it or adding a blog.</p>
<p>Just because you build  a site, certainly does not mean that they will come. Social media has the potential to bring success to many businesses, but not every company is meant to blog. </p>

<p>First, it’s important to understand the, medium, in which we are sending out our message.  I will assume for this post we know email is the best for our offer and surfing audience. That might not always be true. In a crashing economy though I am sure many marketers will already be doing this.</p>
<p>From line: when receiving email, this is the first place most people look. It is like looking at physical mail. You are checking for who/what it is. In this age of advertising we have all developed a mental  screening device. You may have a waste bin ready to hand when it is physical mail.</p>
<p>If it’s a trusted online source, from a friend, from a recognized name, from a site often visited, the chances of opening the email increase.</p>
<p>This is why automated system emails—like to finalize a sale, to open a receipt, or to become a member of a site—have the highest open rates from businesses. </p>
<p>Subject line: Here we have limited characters that can make or break opening the message at all. It’s a topic that requires its own few pages for response to opening emails. To encourage readers to open your email, the subject line needs to be straightforward but have an element of incompleteness or intrigue.</p>
<p>If you can personalize and segment your list, it’s often helpful to inject this into the subject line, along with a sense of urgency. Deadlines and breaking news work particularly well. </p>
<p>Spam keywords: this includes a list of words used in offers whether expected  or spam , like FREE repeated numerous times, money etc. I check with my list screen facility in aweber before sending anything. So do not hurry on this point.Spam mail has other words with prescription drug names and porn type words.</p>
<p>Email writing style: it’s also important to consider the general writing style . According to most consensus, people like writing about the length of their attention span; that is: short and to the point. This succeeds with headlines, sub-headlines, and bullet points.</p>
<p>It is a good idea to visualise the audience receiving the email. Who are they? Where are they? </p>
<p>Email goal &#8211; is it building rapport, offering content or making an offer ?</p>
<p>Offer – Ok, it is the discount, the giveaway, the mega-sale, the deadline, the sense of urgency, the reason why readers need to take action right now.</p>
<p>Call-to-action – What are you asking the  reader to do? </p>
<p>Your copy &#8220;Voice&#8221; – The voice is an important element that must be defined before the writing begins. Usually voice has been established on sign ups from your readers or audience.</p>
<p>Voice for me is simply part and parcel of you as an individual, not some fake persona. It make seem hard starting out and you make errors, but forget that and keep going.Then when you decide on the purpose of an email, this voice will come through, whether it is sharing news, anecdote or even a pitch.It needs to have an emotional reason or angle connected with a benefit for the reader when looking for a sale for maximum return.</p>

<p>Just as there are two basic types of website (direct response website and traditional websites), there are two types of website marketing: direct marketing and indirect marketing.</p>
<p>Direct marketing is the simpler form: make your link available to as many people as you can.  The easiest way to do this is just to distribute your link to any of your online contacts.  This has a few advantages: no one is likely to be upset with you for marketing, and you&#8217;ll probably get a few sales just on the strength of the personal connection. </p>
<p>The disadvantage, however, is massive: no matter how many people you keep in touch with on a daily basis, you always have a much, much larger group of people who could buy your product&#8211;if only they knew about it.  So relying on your contacts alone is obviously not a good overall strategy.</p>
<p>A more effective option is to post your link on various forums, blogs, on sites.  This reaches a large number of people and allows you to target your marketing to the people most likely to buy your product: a graphic design forum, for example, would be a good place to promote your graphics software package.  </p>
<p>A blog about handcrafted art would be a good place to promote your wood carvings.  A website devoted to literary reviews would be a good place to promote your book.  Any number of options exist, depending on your product and the people most likely to buy it.</p>
<p>The disadvantage to this type of direct marketing, however, is the problem of reputation.  Directly placing your link in as many places as possible can easily give you and your business a bad name.  </p>
<p>The solution to this problem is to follow general rules of good online behavior.  This means:</p>
<p>Don&#8217;t post your links in places unrelated to your product.<br />
Don&#8217;t interrupt forum conversations in progress in order to promote your product. Be careful when promoting your product in forums that you don&#8217;t regularly visit.  Read the forum policies and act accordingly. Don&#8217;t react negatively if anyone disparages you or your wares.</p>

<p>This has the advantage of making your link available to even more people than direct marketing can reach, even if you&#8217;re posting on widely-traveled forums or highly-trafficked blogs.  </p>
<p>However, they&#8217;re still limited by the number of people who visit those forums or blogs on a regular basis.  What&#8217;s more, the number of blogs or forums you can visit is limited by your own searches and your own ability to think up new places to promote your product. </p>
<p>With indirect marketing, you can promote to a far wider audience without having to think about each individual blog, forum, or other venue for promotion: you can do all of that work automatically, or you can get other people to do it for you.</p>
<p>There are many ways to get people to promote your product for you. The obvious way, of course, is just to ask people to do it, or to hire a permanent marketing employee whose job it is to find potential opportunities for promotion and to post your link. </p>
<p>A better way, however, might be to offer incentives: a discount on your product, for example, if a certain number of sales can be traced to a customer&#8217;s marketing efforts.  </p>
<p>This means that you might take a loss (or simply break even) on one sale, but it means a guaranteed number of other sales at full price. You might also offer incentives for bringing people to visit your site with a higher threshold.</p>

<p>There is no denying the gathering pace of social media sites in 2008 and beyond. In fact blogs have such a strong presence now, that if you do not have one for business reasons, you will increasingly suffer a disadvantage in promoting yourself online.
